Product Introduction

Stainless Steel I-Beam is a versatile structural profile characterized by its I-shaped cross-section, combining the load-bearing efficiency of the I-design with the inherent advantages of stainless steel. Composed mainly of iron, chromium, and nickel, it stands out for corrosion resistance, durability, and strength, making it widely used in construction, marine engineering, and industrial sectors. Unlike carbon steel I-beams that need protective coatings, stainless steel variants offer long-term performance in harsh environments with minimal maintenance, delivering superior lifecycle value.

The most common grades for stainless steel I-beams are 304/304L and 316/316L, accounting for over 80% of global demand. Grade 304 (18% chromium, 8% nickel) provides excellent general corrosion resistance, suitable for indoor and outdoor non-chloride environments. Its low-carbon variant 304L prevents intergranular corrosion after welding. Grade 316 adds 2-3% molybdenum, enhancing resistance to pitting in chloride-rich settings like coastal areas, with 316L being ideal for offshore and chemical applications. Specialized grades like 321 (high-temperature service) and 2205 duplex steel (high yield strength) cater to specific needs.

Production primarily uses hot rolling, where molten stainless steel is cast into billets, reheated, and rolled into the I-profile. This process ensures good structural integrity and standard dimensions (100-630mm depth). Cold forming and welding are used for custom sizes, with parallel flanges and tighter tolerances. Post-production treatments like annealing, pickling, and passivation enhance corrosion resistance and remove surface oxides.

Key properties include exceptional corrosion resistance from a self-repairing oxide layer, high strength-to-weight ratio (tensile strength 515-690 MPa), durability (50+ year lifespan), heat resistance, and hygienic, aesthetic surfaces. They comply with international standards such as ASTM A6/A6M, EN 10034, and GB/T 11263-2017, with standard lengths of 6m or 12m and various surface finishes.

Applications span construction (building beams, bridges), marine (ship frames, offshore platforms), industrial (machinery frames, chemical plants), and food/pharmaceutical sectors (hygienic support). Compared to carbon steel, they have lower lifecycle costs despite higher initial prices. With ongoing innovations in sustainable production and advanced grades, stainless steel I-beams remain a vital choice for modern, low-maintenance infrastructure.
